The ball further from the hole

The ball further from the hole is also player first in stroke play.? However, the person who tees off first at the next hole is usually the competitor with the lowest score.? There's no penalty for playing out of turn.

The ball furthest from the hole is always played first in match play.? The winner of the hole will tee off first at the next hole.? Anyone who plays out of turn at any point may be required to replay by his or her opponent.  If your ball goes out of bounds, you must count the stroke and replay the shot, adding a penalty stroke.

This is called the stroke and distance penalty.  You count the stroke, you lose the distance and add another stroke.  In other words, go back to where you hit the original shot and do it again.  In the case of a drive, you're now hitting your third shot from the tee.

If your ball ends up within the confines of a hazard but not in the water and you can play it, make sure you don't ground you club, which means letting it rest on the surface.  That's a no-no and costs you a penalty stroke.  Touching the grass but not the ground is okay.  They may use a club head to search for the ball.

A player deems their ball unplayable in a bunker. Under penalty of a stroke, they may remove the ball and play it at the spot where they stroked the ball into the bunker. Regardless of the type of play, if a player¡¯s ball is moved by another ball anywhere on the course, the player¡¯s ball must be replaced. No Penalty.

The whole ball rests on a line defining out of bounds. The ball is in play. A player¡¯s ball is touching a water hazard stake and the ball is in the hazard. The stake may be removed. A ball is out of bounds when any part of it is out of bounds.  If you hit your ball OB, there is a one-stroke penalty, and you must hit another ball. If you are not sure if the ball is OB, hit a "Provisional Ball" just in case. If you determine that the first ball is OB, then you continue on and play with the Provisional Ball.

If you hit your ball into a water hazard, you may play it (could be messy), or play another ball from where you just hit (with a one-stroke penalty). Another option is to drop another ball where the original ball entered the hazard, incur a one-stroke penalty and play on.
